Habitats Banco de la Concepción
Description
The information contained in this data set corresponds to the different benthic habitats of the SCI of Banco de La Concepción (ESZZ15001), one of the study areas of the INTEMARES project. The seamount called Banco de La Concepción is located north of Lanzarote (Canary Islands - Macaronesia - Atlantic Ocean).
This is the representation of the spatial distribution of the different benthic habitats mapped in this SCI.
The area comprising the data provided covers all those funds of the bank in which some of the mapped habitats are distributed up to approximately 1500m deep.
It is a data set composed of polygonal elements, where each element represents a benthic habitat type.
Each object has associated a series of alphanumeric variables such as the name of the habitat according to INTEMARES, the categories in which it is included in international conventions, or its extension, among others.
The preparation of this set of geographical information began in 2010, thanks to the oceanographic campaigns carried out within the framework of the INDEMARES and INTEMARES project, of which the last campaign was carried out in 2018.
The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database.
These works have been financed thanks to the LIFE IP INTEMARES Project (LIFE-IP INTEMARES - Integrated, Innovative and Participatory Management for N2000 network in the Marine Environment - LIFE15 IPE/ES/000012). This integrated project has the challenge of laying the foundations to effectively manage the marine areas of the Natura 2000 Network and complete the work and progress promoted within the framework of the LIFE + INDEMARES project, which managed to take a great step in terms of declaring new areas.
