Map of Active Processes of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria at 1:25.000 scale

Description

The mapping of the series of the Map of Active Processes of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria at 1:25.000 scale is derived from the mapping of the Geomorphological Map on a scale 1:25.000 resulting from this same project. Other sources of reference data are aerial and panoramic photos of different dates, historical references and news in the press of related processes, which occurred in the area in recent or historical times.Their elaboration has been carried out in accordance with the specifications and regulations contained in the document published by the IGME: Geomorphological map of Spain at scale 1:50.000. Guide to its elaboration (2004), to which 2 new elements (concincts) have been added at the express request of the Government of Cantabria. These new elements are: “enclosure with similar conditioning characteristics of observed hillside processes” and “Lithological enclosure to which dissolution/subsidence processes may be associated”. They correspond to closed enclosures that include “pointing” elements that reflect hillside and dissolution/subsidence processes that have already happened, and those areas that are likely to experience these same types of processes or that have similar characteristics in terms of any of the fundamental conditioning features of the process in question. In the case of landslides: slope, orientation of the same and lithology of the substrate/surface deposit; in the case of subsidence: the lithology, more or less soluble of the substrate.The active processes contemplated are: seismic, neotectonic activity, hillside movements, erosion, flooding and sedimentation and processes associated with certain lithologies. In some cases, anthropic interventions have also been considered as processes with a strong incidence in the natural environment.The information regarding the degree of attention (low, moderate, remarkable) for each process is incorporated by means of gradada of color intensity, being the most intense for the remarkable degree of attention.The map sheet contains as main element the central window that represents the processes through their corresponding symbology and their degree of attention, both in accordance with the specific regulations of the IGME (2004); and as additional elements the legend of the map, the geographical location scheme, the climate scheme and the seismic activity scheme.
