District assistance: Maternal and Child Consultative Care

At provincial level, the health assistants working in paediatric clinics provided a total of 230,488 services in 2015 (over 50% in the Merano area alone). The activity carried out by this figure in paediatric clinics consists mainly of the measurement of vital parameters and / or assessment of the status of one or more organs-systems of the newborn and early childhood (20.5%), advice to the mother-child unit (19.6%), education of the person and / or family for the purposes of prevention, hygienic-sanitary empowerment and adherence to the intervention program (17.2%) and NAS performance (8.1%). There are 7 health districts that record the presence of the pediatrician in maternal-child consultations. In 2015, there were about 3,700 services provided by paediatricians at provincial paediatric clinics. At provincial level, midwives working in obstetric-gynecological clinics provided a total of 24,356 services in 2015. The activity carried out by this figure in the provincial obstetric-gynecological consultors consists mainly of advice to the mother-child unit (21.7%), the visit of the midwife (13.6%) and the measurement of vital parameters and / or assessment of the status of one or more organ-systems (11.2%). In 2015, there were about 13,000 services provided by gynecologists at provincial councils. In health districts where gynaecologists, paediatricians and midwives do not work, the citizen can contact the respective hospital facilities.
