Description

Technical description: The data described here form the contents of the flood hazard and flood risk maps according to the EC Flood Risk Management Directive (2007/60/EC, HWRM Directive) for the 2nd reporting cycle (2019-2025). In Hamburg, a distinction is made between flood risks caused by coastal floods and inland floods. The hazard and risk maps each cover three flood events. For inland floods, the frequent event (marking: H for High) a 10-year, medium event (marking: M for Middle) a 100-year and the rare event (marking: L for Low) is a 200-yearly. For areas at risk from coastal flooding, the frequent event is a 20-yearly event, the mean event as inland flooding is a 100-yearly event and the rare event is an extreme event in which a rare, extremely high water level (7.62 mNHN at the St. Pauli level) is assumed and in addition the effect of the flood protection systems is disregarded. The hazard maps show the extent of flood events in the form of the extent and the water depths that occur. The risk maps show how the affected areas are used, the location of industrial plants and protected goods and the number of potentially affected inhabitants. Both maps show the structural flood protection systems (e.g. dykes, private polders and flood protection walls) and their effect. Legal background: The Flood Risk Management Directive (2007/60/EC of 23 October 2007) regulates the preparation and publication of flood risk management maps. The legal transposition of this EC Directive into national law took place with the amendment of the Water Management Act of 1 March 2010. Section 74 of the Water Resources Act stipulates the publication of flood hazard and flood risk maps for the second reporting cycle as at 22 December 2019. Data for flood risk management (HWRM) maps of the 2nd reporting cycle (2019-2025) are provided here as a WMS representation service and as a WFS download service.
