Elevation changes from Sentinel-1 data
Description
Based on satellite-based radar interferometry (Persistent Scatterer Interferometry, PSI), the ground motion cadastre NRW presents vertical ground motion rates (mm/year) in generalized 250 m hexagons in North Rhine-Westphalia. Radar interferometry is a remote sensing measurement method that is becoming increasingly established as a new standard for detecting ground movements due to its high metrological accuracy and precision in the millimeter range in combination with large-area spatial coverage and high temporal resolution. Freely available SAR data from the Sentinel-1 radar satellite mission, which is managed by ESA as part of the Copernicus programme, serve as the data basis for the NRW ground motion cadastre. The storage and validation of the radar interferometric measurement data is carried out by means of height fixed points of the official spatial reference. Each hexagon is spatially averaged from at least three pixel readings.
