Wild waste dumps in speleological facilities

Clean underground is a project of the Zagreb Speleological Association whose main goal is to stop pollution of speleological objects. Waste thrown into karst caves and pits directly endangers protected underground fauna as well as groundwater reserves. The locations of caves and pits used as illegal waste dumps were collected from the archives of Croatian speleological organisations, supplemented by the discovery of new contaminated sites by speleological associations. The data are consistent with those published on the website www.cistopodzemlje.info.
