The breeding bird fauna of the Eggeralm
Description
A total of 20 species were observed at the Eggeralm. Compared to the other alpine pastures studied in 2004 and 2005, many species are missing. However, the small number of species is also due to the small size of the study area and the small number of visits.
However, the presence of Amsel, Bunt- and Dreitohenspecht, Kleiber, Cuckuck, mistletoe, monkgrass mosquito, black woodpecker and singing thrush are to be expected (in the immediate vicinity). The cuckoo was found only on the Scheucheggalm and is rare in the area. The Steinschmätzer also occurs in the Gesäuse only in very low densities and finds no suitable conditions on the Eggeralm. The tower falcon is to be expected as a food guest.
The absence of the tree pie is surprising, as the loose trees and semi-open forest areas should provide ideal habitats. However, it is rare in the Gesäuse and could only be observed north of the Enns in the area of the Hochscheibenalm.
There are no suitable conditions for the mountain pieper due to the absence of larger open areas. Lentner (2001) describes him as the dominant type of alpine pastures above 1 500 m.
