Archaeological Monuments Map (2014)
Description
The Archaeological Monuments Map 2014 (AMK 2014) contains an overview of archaeological sites in the Netherlands in 2014. The AMK has not been maintained by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands since 2014. The 2014 AMK can therefore be regarded as a static file. The map was developed in collaboration with the various provinces and municipal archaeologists. The areas were assessed on the criteria of quality, rarity, representativeness, ensemble value and experiential value. On the basis of these criteria, the sites are classified into sites with archaeological value, high archaeological value and very high archaeological value. The latter category also included legally protected monuments. The situation as presented in the 2014 AMK differs from the current situation. Since 2014, new archaeological sites have been added and existing sites have become decayed, larger or smaller. In addition, valuable archaeological remains can also be found outside the sites that are on the AMK.
