Description
Buildings or sets of buildings that form with a historical monument a coherent set or that are likely to contribute to its conservation or development are protected by the surrounding area. Surrounding protection also applies to any building, whether built or unbuilt, within a perimeter bounded by the Prefect. This perimeter, delimited on the proposal of the ABB, can be common to several historical monuments. These are the old modified protection perimeters (PPMs).
If such a perimeter has not been delimited, protection under the vicinity applies to any building, whether built or unbuilt, visible to the historic monument or visible at the same time and situated less than 500 metres from it.
Work likely to alter the exterior appearance of a building, whether built or not, protected by the surrounding area is subject to prior authorisation.
