Bird sanctuaries in the district of Wesermarsch
Description
The “Directive on the conservation of wild birds” (Council Directive 2009/147/EC of 30 November 2009), the first version of which was adopted in 1979, is the European Community’s instrument to protect European bird species as a whole as part of European biodiversity. The objective of this Directive is to preserve all wild birds native to the Community in their natural ranges and habitats. For this purpose, EU bird protection areas are established in accordance with Articles 3 and 4 of the EU Birds Directive.
Together with the FFH sites, the EU bird sanctuaries form the Europe-wide Natura 2000 protected area network.
In the district of Wesermarsch, the Lower Nature Conservation Authority in the Fachdienst 68 (Environment) is responsible for the designation and supervision of the natural monuments.
The data set “Bird protected areas in the district of Wesermarsch” is a vector dataset that indicates the bird conservation areas in location and shape as polygons (areas). The data are in the coordinate system ETRS_1989_UTM_Zone_32N (EPSG: 25832).
