Activity of branches of the economy
Description
Annual data on branch activity recorded in the production and operating accounts. The production account describes the relationship between production and the intermediate consumption required for that production. The balance is gross value added, which measures the wealth created during the production process.
The operating account describes how gross value added covers compensation paid to employees and taxes on production. It has as its balance the gross operating surplus and the gross mixed income which measure the operating profit of the branches.
The approximation of gross value added and the number of employees in the branches makes it possible to calculate the apparent productivity of labour. Wages and salaries and manpower (or the number of hours worked) are used to calculate the average wage per head (or the average hourly wage).
Employment (STO=EMP) is measured in terms of manpower (natural persons with UNIT_MEASURE=PS or full-time equivalent FT) or hours worked (UNIT_MEASURE=HW).
