Dataset of rivers of metropolitan France BD Topage® version 2024
Gravity flow of water from, inter alia, precipitation, a spring, melting snow or ice, a water surface or a surface or ground water table.
The path of a watercourse is continuous between its source and its confluence with another watercourse or its mouth in the sea. Its flow is carried out on the surface or underground, permanently or temporarily.
Rivers include rivers and streams as well as navigation channels. This excludes irrigation canals, forced pipes and ditches.
A watercourse is a hydrographic entity consisting of elementary hydrographic sections. These sections can sometimes be underground, channelled, nozzled, or even fictitious if they are associated with a water surface (rivers more than 5.5 metres wide).
Note: The management of transboundary rivers in the hydrographic reference system is as follows:
Cas des cours d'eau situés sur la frontière (faisant frontière) : the geometry of it will be integrated in its entirety;
Cas des cours d'eau franchissant la frontière une fois : a common cross-border hydrographic node will be shared between the two countries (pending clear border delimitations);
Cas des cours d'eau faisant des allers-retours entre les deux pays : the geometry of the latter will be fully integrated for the part between its first and last round trip on the border (even for the part located in the neighbouring country).
