MSFD2018 - D5C5: Percentile 10 of dissolved oxygen concentration in the geographical assessment units of marine subregions (2010-2016)

Description

The dissolved oxygen concentration (mg.l-1) in the bottom of the water column is one of the criteria for defining eutrophication under the MSFD (D5C5). The index used to assess the achievement of good environmental status for this criterion is Percentile 10 of dissolved oxygen concentration, calculated by geographic unit of assessment and for the period included in the MSFD cycle (2010-2016). The geographical units of assessment in which this criterion is assessed are WFD water bodies between 0 and 1 nautical mile of the baseline, 1/20° grid cells between 1 Mm and 12 Mm and 1/5° grid cells between 12 Mm and the EEZ boundary. The data is presented in the form of georeferenced files of type shp. The criterion of good condition is that the concentrations are not at levels indicating adverse effects. 100% of the assessed area of the MMN, MC and MO MRS met the EEB for this criterion. For the GdG MRS: 82.7% of the MRS area was assessed and 0.5% of the total area (912 km2) does not meet the EEB for this criterion.
