MSFD2018 – D5C4: Percentile 90 of turbidity in the geographical units of assessment of marine subregions (2010-2016)

Description

Turbidity (NTU) in the water column is one of the criteria for defining eutrophication under the MSFD (D5C4). The index used to assess the achievement of good ecological status for this criterion is the Percentile 90 of turbidity, calculated by geographical unit of assessment and for the period included in the MSFD cycle (2010-2016). The geographical units of assessment in which this criterion is assessed are WFD water bodies between 0 and 1 nautical mile of the baseline, 1/20° grid cells between 1 Mm and 12 Mm and 1/5° grid cells between 12 Mm and the EEZ boundary. The data is presented in the form of georeferenced files of type shp. The criterion of good condition is that turbidity is not at levels indicating adverse effects. For the MMN MRS: 99% of the MRS area was assessed and 0.2% of the total area (50 km2) does not meet the EEB for this criterion. For the SRM MC: 96% of the MRS area was assessed and 100% of this area met the EEB for this criterion. For the GdG MRS: 98.4% of the MRS area was assessed and 0.1% of the total area (251 km2) does not meet the EEB for this criterion. For MO MRS: 97.8% of the MRS area was assessed and 0.05% of the total area (58 km2) did not meet the EEB for this criterion.
