Environmental Economic Assessment of Remediation Measures of Contaminated Sites
Description
The selection of remediation measures at contaminated sites must be geared primarily to ecological aspects in accordance with the main objective of remediation of contaminated sites, which is enshrined in law. However, in order to ensure optimal use of economic resources, economic aspects must also be taken into account. No standardised assessment tool is currently used in Austria to compare remediation measures with regard to their environmental and economic impact. The report of the Federal Environment Agency presents numerous environmental economic assessment procedures and evaluates whether they can be applied in the context of the future management of contaminated sites in Austria. It turns out that a system based on a cost-effectiveness analysis is the most suitable.
