Description
Old hoofs in Twente around 1500. The dataset is based on the Historical map of Twente circa 1500, published by the Vereniging Oudheidkamer Twente in 1991. This edition, consisting of a booklet with four maps, offers an overview of the farms in Twente that existed around the year 1500. The first source for this publication was the Twente Estimates Register of 1475. Other sources have been used for the glories of Almelo and Diepenheim, the court district of Haaksbergen and the city district of Rijssen. For the location of the farms, informants are engaged on the spot. On the four maps accompanying the publication, the locations of the farms are marked with a dot with a number. The farms are divided into marks and numbered by marke. That is why the maps also indicate the mark boundaries. The booklet contains lists of the names of the farms per marke. The lists contain the name of the farm or farm as it is known today (HOEVE_NAME) and the name from the Estimation Register (H_NAAM1500). In some cases, the farm has disappeared and the current name is missing. The information from the lists is included in the table of the dataset. For the digitized form, the numbering is strictly speaking no longer necessary, but included (HOEVE_NR). For the paper edition, the numbering was needed to link the farm name in the list to the location on the map. There is a separate dataset for the market boundaries (MARKE_POLYGON). The farms that are missing from the map (farm names in the Estimates Register for which the informants have not been able to find a location) are not included in the dataset.
