EDIT survey (Epidemiology of the Determinants of Road Accidents in Tuscany)
Description
The study [EDIT](https://www.ars.toscana.it/en/edit.html) was born from the need to improve knowledge on the possible causes of road accidents in order to detect those aspects of their lifestyles potentially at risk, primarily for road safety, but in general for their safety and health, thus investigating driving habits and road accidents, alcohol consumption, consumption of psychotropic substances, smoking, body weight, bullying, sexual behavior, gambling, physical activity and eating habits. The survey was carried out by the Epidemiology of Integrated Social Services sector of the Regional Health Agency of Tuscany, in the months between February and May 2005, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015 involving a sample of secondary school students from the region. To return sufficiently representative results at AUSL level, at least 400 subjects were selected for each territory, corresponding to 4 schools per AUSL. The institutions were extracted independently for each AUSL by means of variable probability sampling proportional to the student size of the AUSL itself. The algorithm used for the extraction of first stage units (schools) within the 12 layers (AUSL) is systematic.
The sample nature of the EDIT survey makes it necessary, when analysing the data, to apply a system of weights in order to obtain results representative of the entire student population. Each detection unit is associated with a sample weight (variable name in the dataset: ‘weight’); in order to proceed with the calculation of the indicators, instead of a unit count, it is therefore necessary to make a sum of the weights associated with the units.
