Data analysis for the treatment of mineral construction and demolition waste in Austria.

Circular management, especially in the recycling of mineral construction and demolition waste, has a great potential to save natural resources, energy and emissions. One focus of this study was the analysis of the fate of mineral construction and demolition waste after their treatment. For this purpose, the Federal Environment Agency experts used two different methods: based on a detailed analysis of 20 plant operators and the top-down approach, a bottom-up approach was used to evaluate reporting data for Austria as a whole. The results of the analyses show that, after projection, between 4 % and 11 % of the masses were deposited after treatment in 2017, the majority of which was recycled. In addition, the reports on the Central Register of Assets and the annual waste balance regarding standardised evaluability were also analysed and any potential improvement potential was identified.
