Definitions: In geosciences, a topography describes the Earth's surface. In aquatic systems, the term is often used synonymously with the term ‘bathymetry’ for the altitude of the bottom of the water body. In the TrilaWatt research project, topographical data indicate the subtidal, intertidal and supratidal elevation distribution in the area of the 12-nautical-mile zone of the Wadden Sea. Data generation: The basis of the data generation are topographical models from an extensive database of sea and land surveys of various data types. These are combined with a data-driven simulation model using spatiotemporal interpolation methods. As a compromise between the constant morphodynamic activity in the Wadden Sea and the significantly lower measuring frequency, topographic models are created in TrilaWatt as annual topographies. Product: For the period from 2015 to 2021 inclusive, a gridded topographic model in the 12 nautical miles zone of the Wadden Sea with a gridded resolution of 10 m in space and time will be interpolated for the respective validity period of 01.07. The data product is provided in GeoTIFF format. Data source maps and data density maps are published for each data product to assess the uncertainty of the topographic dataset.
