Moor soils with special functional characteristics from a soil protection perspective in the state of Brandenburg
Description
Moor soils are all-rounders. They store water and CO2, are the basis of life for special plants and animals and recreational space for people. Moor soils have been mined, drained and farmed for centuries. The preserved areas require special protection.
In the LfU Technical Report ‘Moor soils with a special functional character from the point of view of soil protection’ (LfU, 2020), the moor soils are considered from the special point of view of soil protection. These are peatlands in particular, which are particularly close to nature, contain archives of natural history and serve as a high carbon reservoir.
In order to distinguish it from a wide range of other peatland data, the GIS data available here were supplemented with the words ‘functional characteristics from the point of view of soil protection’.
It should be noted that this is only a subset of the referenced peatland map.
For the sake of completeness, the moorland areas not evaluated in this project but equally significant were also mapped in the shapes moor_bfap_nbmfb.shp and moor_bfap_nbmb.shp.
The available shapes represent the results of this report in terms of both area and point.
