Accumulation of pressures that may lead to significant modification of the salinity regime in the South Atlantic Demarcation (MS SUD PRE Salinity)
Description
To identify those areas of the South Atlantic Demarcation whose saline regime can be significantly altered, a semi-quantitative index has been developed that takes into account all the elements described below:
All cells located less than 5 km from: some sewage treatment plants, municipalities with desalination capacity (in the absence of the location of discharge points) and river mouths that may be disturbed by regulatory issues (assuming that anything further away is likely to affect rivers or transitional waters and therefore would not directly affect coastal waters). Double scoring has been awarded to treatment plants designed for more than 100,000 equivalent inhabitants. In addition, 0.25 has been added to the cells that coincide with a wastewater discharge. Finally, everything has been added, being the resulting range of values:
Very High: 6 to 7.25 / High: 5 to 6 / Medium: 2 to 5 / Low: 1 to 2 / Very Low: minor 1
