Description
On 42 richly illustrated pages, a general overview of earthquakes and their dynamics, where and why they occur and how they are recorded is given. The second part is dedicated to the earthquakes in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Lower Rhine Bay is the most active earthquake area in West Germany and at the same time a densely populated industrial conurbation. In order to be able to build residential buildings and industrial plants earthquake-proof, it must be known where earthquakes of what magnitude can occur. The Geological Service NRW makes a contribution to this with its earthquake monitoring network and the investigations of historical earthquake events, so-called palaeobeben. The booklet offers in a concise and generally understandable form an introduction to the earthquake topic with a focus on the seismic events in NRW.
