Carbon-rich soils in Lower Saxony 1: 50 000 with sealed surfaces — Floor type description (WMS Service)
Description
The soil type map shows the soils with carbon-rich horizons (moor soils and peat horizons) and has over 30 soil types. For some units, the carbon-rich horizons are not mentioned in the soil type, although they are determining the soil type. In these cases, the carbon-rich horizons usually occur only in deeper sections of the profile. In total, about 150 soil forms (floor type plus substrate with different widths = legend units) are shown in the map.
The soil map BK50 describes the distribution of the soils of Lower Saxony on a scale of 1: 50,000 according to the latest state of the soil information available at the LBEG. The soil map has a relatively high spatial differentiation of soil types for its scale and takes into account the most up-to-date knowledge about the distribution of the bogs at the time of creation, including the soils of the soils and the soils following soils, as well as of cultural soils such as deep breaks, plag genes, spitt culture soils, and marsh hoof soils.
Moor soils are particularly dynamic and change quickly through cultural engineering measures. Drainage creates an aerobic area in the peat body, which triggers processes such as sacking, peat shrinkage and decomposition and leads to a loss of peat power (distribution processes in the bog). The present map can only reflect these changes delayed in time.
It should be noted that the map is an overview. It can be used to obtain an overview of the carbon-rich soils of Lower Saxony or to identify search rooms. On the other hand, it cannot be a basis for sparse, regional statements.
