Soils worthy of protection in Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 - Further references to soils of high natural history significance (WFS Service)
Description
Soils that are particularly worthy of protection include soils that fulfil the natural functions as well as the archiving function to a particular extent. According to soil protection law, impairments of these functions should be avoided (cf. ยง1 BBodSchG). Soils with high natural history or geoscientific significance provide an insight into soil developments of long past times and are building blocks for a better understanding of natural and landscape development. They also provide information on climate and vegetation conditions.
This includes soils with a high natural history significance as well as soils that are representative of the federal state of Lower Saxony (soil duration monitoring area/BDF).
The dataset shows search spaces, i.e. only the approximate location, of such soils. They are based on information from surveys on the location of such areas. These include brown soils with angel humus (according to Capelle & Caspers, 1998), paleo-soils (various sources) and podsoles with Ortstein (soil estimation). The recording is not comprehensive and therefore incomplete. It is continuously updated.
The methods for determining the protection of soils in Lower Saxony are described in detail in Bug et al. (2019) is described. The evaluations are based on the soil map of Lower Saxony 1 : 50 000 (BK50) and further work of the LBEG.
