Loans from the Kunsthalle zu Kiel in 2020
Description
The collection of the Kunsthalle zu Kiel covers a spectrum that ranges from the Dürer period to the international contemporary art. It comprises around 1,100 paintings, 300 sculptures, with tens of thousands of works in the Graphic Collection as well as photographs and video works. Changing presentations with works from our own collection are an integral part of our exhibition programme. Behind the scenes, the Kunsthalle also operates a lively rental service. Works of art from the own collection are given as loans to other museums and exhibition houses at times and presented there in very different thematic contexts.
Over the decades, there is an interesting journey for many works of art. In addition to the data on the works and their artists as well as the various borrowers, ranging from art museums to city museums to military historical museums, the geo-coordinates of the travel stations in particular provide many possibilities for digital re-use. Are you now invited to allow the works to travel digitally? Do the data spider a virtual network that needs to be decrypted?
The data set provided (JPEGs + CSV + PDF) includes the entire rental traffic of the Kunsthalle including the cancelled requests from the Corona year 2020 as well as the longer travel history of three often sought-after artworks. The latter are fully accessible with high-resolution visual material, while the loan from 2020 is only partially available with illustrations of the works of art, as a number of works are still subject to copyright protection. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s work is a canvas painted on both sides.
In addition to the metadata for the individual works (artist name, life data, work title, dating, technology and dimensions), the data set includes the respective travel station (exhibition location, geo-coordinates, exhibition titles and period).
