Description

For the first time, the Protected Forest Information Card uses scientifically defined criteria to present the potential protected forest backdrop in the entire Austrian territory and is intended to increase awareness of the ‘green’ protection infrastructure. As an important planning tool, it not only serves the integral natural hazard management, but is intended to draw attention to the potential site and object protection forests, especially in forest management. The evaluated map combines a clearly defined scientific methodology with local knowledge and local practical expertise in the field. The map visualizes the protective function of the forest, i.e. a potential forest area that is supposed to protect against natural hazards or soil degradation. The categories shown do not give rise to any legal obligation. In a 3-year interval, a possible need for change is queried by the BML at the regional forestry authorities.
