Military practice ground with natural values
Description
In the province there are two major military training areas: the Leusderheide and the Vlasakkers. These sites have important natural values, partly thanks to the careful management by the Ministry of Defence, which is also aimed at preserving these natural values. However, the Decree on General Spatial Planning (Barro) indicates that these sites are not part of the Nature Network Netherlands. According to the Reich, military use does not conform to the status of NNN and the associated protection regime. However, as also recognised in the Barro explanatory memorandum, these sites, due to their size, location and quality of nature, contribute significantly to the functioning of the NNN. We have therefore identified these areas as military practice ground with natural values. The areas are not formally part of the NNN.
