Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park Sub-area Saarland
Description
The National Park is a joint project of the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland have established a national park with a total size of approximately 10,000 hectares by means of a state treaty.
About 986 hectares are located in Saarland, within the area of the municipalities of Nohfelden and Nonnweiler.
This area is internally subdivided into the natural zone, which is divided into zones 1 a and 1 b.
In zone 1 a, the forest is already completely left to itself without direct human influence.
In zone 1 b, the forest is still to be rebuilt in such a way that the forest societies typical of the site can manifest themselves there.
In total, there is a maximum time frame of 30 years so that Zone 1 b can be converted or developed in such a way that, together with Zone 1a, a total natural zone is reached, representing 75 % of the total area of the National Park.
On this surface, nature can then be nature.
The remaining area with a share of around 25 % is the care zone 2.
This is intended to shield the natural zone from influences from the neighbouring areas.
In nursing zone 2, the implementation of targeted measures is also possible, for example, to supply citizens with firewood.
