Description
Water protection forest secures and improves the quality of groundwater as well as standing and flowing surface waters. The water storage capacity of forest soils largely prevents near-surface drains and flood peaks and ensures a steady flow of water in periods of low rainfall. At the same time, the risk of flood damage and erosion is minimized. The database mainly comprises non-legally binding water management plans (planned protected areas under water law, groundwater conservation areas, priority areas, etc.).
