Description
The Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan (SUMP) is the strategic document that aims to guide the city’s mobility policies for the next 10 years. The SUMP has proposed the introduction of two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines along the ‘Val di Pesa – Valdelsa’ and ‘Chianti – Florence’ routes, which will form the backbone of the organisation of the public road transport network in these two territorial systems by connecting them to Florence. The Bus Rapid Transit solution is characterised by a high degree of flexibility in implementation, inherent in the peculiarities of road transport systems, which is based on the preference of the running of public transport vehicles obtained, from time to time, through the creation of sections in-house and/or semaphoric priority systems. The two projects lend themselves to being carried out using hybrid methane transport vehicles, thus being able to benefit from the resources provided by the National Strategic Sustainable Mobility Plan for the renewal and decarbonisation of the Florence bus fleet. the Reference Scenario (i.e. the interventions that can be carried out independently of the SUMP as they are already planned-programmed and already provided with financial coverage), the Plan Scenario (i.e. the infrastructural and non-infrastructural interventions, additional to the Reference Scenario that meet the general and specific objectives that the SUMP has set itself), the Evolutionary Scenario. The geographical data of the SUMP to be published refer to the three scenarios of the plan contained in the approved tables.The Metropolitan Council of Florence initiated the procedure for drawing up the metropolitan SUMP and verifying the SEA with Resolution No 121 of 19 December 2018 and with Resolution No 24 of the Metropolitan Council of 21 April 2021 definitively approved the Pums-Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan of the Metrocity.
