PTCP 2013 - Knowledge Framework QC02 Ecological networks - Metropolitan City of Florence
Description
Territorial Plan of Provincial Coordination approved with Delib. C.P. of 10/01/2013 (BURT n.11 of 13/03/2013).
The Charter summarises the main content of the research on the identification of ecological connection areas in the territory of the Metropolitan City of Florence commissioned by the Province of Florence.
The following functional units are indicated:
- nodes, understood as high nature value ecosystem units (core areas) of ecological networks of forests, open areas, shrubs, wetlands;
- wading stones and areas of high nature value intended as discontinuous ecological linking elements of the nets listed above;
- corridors intended as ecological connecting areas;
- buffer zones, defined as areas adjacent to nodes in the network of forests, open areas, shrubs and wetlands.
As regards the ecological network of watercourses, the following shall be distinguished:
- nodes, understood as stretches of watercourses of proven high naturalistic value;
- corridors, understood as the remaining sections of watercourses, the connection value of which is potential or – at present – interrupted due to artificial causes.
