Practice of large composting plants and essential requirements for low-emission operation
Description
The report provides the basis for a national contribution by Austria in the field of aerobic biological waste treatment (composting) for the revision of the European BAT document on waste treatment. For this purpose, up-to-date emission data for composting plants were collected in cooperation with the City of Vienna. With the involvement of stakeholders and plant operators, essential requirements for low-emission operation of large composting plants are formulated. These requirements have been compiled taking into account the state-of-the-art directive on composting and on the basis of best practice examples of Austrian composting plants. In some cases, requirements from the Directive on the state of the art of composting have been specified, and in some cases additional requirements have also been included.
