Activities of sports medicine services
Description
The sports medicine services are responsible for the health protection of competitive sports activities. They carry out the tasks assigned by the provincial law on hygiene and public health and forensic medicine (l.p. 13.01.92, n. 1); in particular, carry out the necessary assessments of suitability for competitive and non-competitive sports activities, with the issue of the relevant certification, and carry out coordination and promotion activities of the interventions of doctors and structures in the field of health protection of sports activities. The Sports Medicine Service of Bolzano also performs special specialist functions for the benefit of athletes from all over the Province, according to an agreed protocol.
Sports medicine services are active in the health resorts of Bolzano, Bressanone and Brunico, while in the health resort of Merano sports medicine services are provided by the Bolzano service.
The sports medicine services, in addition to the activities assigned by Law no. 1/92, perform special specialized functions, such as health education interventions in schools, evaluation and control of training, anti-doping controls, assistance to international competitions and periodic evaluation of disabled athletes.
In 2015, a total of 18,215 certificates for fitness for competitive sports were issued and 101 sports medical checkups were performed.
