15-AG Archaeological Sites
Description
According to the Cultural Act (SAR 495.200) ยง 40, the Department of BKS maintains a public inventory of archaeological remains. The department responsible for this is Cantonal Archaeology. Archaeological remains are in particular prehistoric and historical sites as well as ownerless movable objects, where traces of human activity have been preserved. Their place of discovery is referred to as the place of discovery. The dataset contains archaeological sites: Interpreted A sites (red perimeter) are large, stationary sites (e.g. settlements, buildings, cemeteries, graves). As interpreted B-site (blue perimeter) are places where individual objects were found (e.g. stone axe, coin), which can point to large-scale sites. The addition "interpreted" refers to the recording status of the reference. For example, a reference is considered to be "interpreted" if, after evaluating all available information of associated findings and excavation reports, both the finding and dating as well as the extension of the reference are defined. Sometimes these parameters are based on very old, sometimes inaccurately localized find reports. Through the continuous processing of such find reports, but also through the evaluation of new, current excavation reports, the sites are constantly corrected and adapted, whereby both content, finding and dating as well as perimeter and localization of the same change again and again. These mutations are archived and can be traced over time in the AGISTools, map "Archaeological sites". Specific information on the reference (e.g. on findings, dating, species, extent and degree of conservation) can be accessed on request via the reference number, which is also included as an attribute in the GIS data set.
