Strategic drinking water reserves
Description
In order to be able to continue to guarantee the drinking water supply in the longer term, the province designates a number of areas as strategic drinking water reserves in the Vision for Space and Mobility of the Province of Zuid-Holland. The groundwater in these areas is reserved for the future supply of drinking water. Areas are indicated indicatively and are located on both sides of the Lek and in parts of the Vijfheerenlanden, Alblasserwaard and the island of Dordrecht. In this connection, a connection has been sought with the existing extractions. As a result of the reservation, a number of functions and developments are excluded in these areas, and other functions that adversely affect the quality of groundwater and pose a risk to the drinking water supply must be handled with care. Exact elaboration of the level of protection for these areas takes place during the revision of the Provincial Environmental Ordinance (PMV).
