Monitoring of bats in the Gesäuse National Park — Final report

Description

Based on the results of the first survey of bat fauna in the Gesäuse National Park in 2005 by the KFFÖ, this study dealt with questions about the species that occur, their locations and their blackout quarters, as well as for monitoring. A total of 13 bat species were detected in the Gesäuse National Park. In addition, due to Batcorder recordings, there is strong suspicion for two other species of occurrence in the Gesäuse National Park. Weekly rooms were found in the Gesäuse just outside the national park boundaries. Each in Johnsbach there are two weekly bars Small horseshoe noses and a weekly bar Brauner Langohren. Another two possible weekly bars Small horseshoe noses could be located in the two bridges Kummerbrücke and Ennsbrücke near the Hartelsgraben. At various locations, balzenous two-color bats could be registered, which indicate mating activity. The simplest method of detection of the different species is certainly the Batlogger or Batcorder system, although some species (e.g. Myotis) can also experience evaluation problems. However, together with the quarter controls of the main weekly quarters, most species could be covered by these two methods. Thus, a waiver of the more elaborate net catch would be possible, provided that monitoring is only intended for certain, suitable, individual bat species, such as the mosquito bat or the dwarf bat.
