Air pollution, emissions from mobile sources (as of 01/01/2023)
Description
This database contains data on emissions to air from mobile sources: means of transport and mobile tools with internal combustion engines. These are emissions from the burning of (engine) fuels, emissions from evaporation of fuel and cargo residues and emissions from tyre, brake lining and road wear and wear of overhead lines and pantographs on railways.
The file contains data from 1990 onwards.

### Methodology
The research takes place within the cooperation of the Emission Registration (ER), in which about 10 organizations participate. The magnitude of emissions shall be determined by multiplying activity data, such as vehicle and vessel kilometres, with fuel consumption and associated emission factors.
Statistics Netherlands only calculates greenhouse gas emissions. The air pollutants from mobile sources are calculated by other organisations (PBL, RIVM, TNO) and supplied to the ER.
The basic database for greenhouse gas emissions is the energy input according to Statistics Netherlands' Energy Statistics. This energy commitment is allocated to the various mobile sources for which the SMI Environment receives data (activities, fuel use, emissions, emission factors) from the RIVM, PBL, TNO and also from the SVV Traffic and Transport.
### Population
Mobile sources on or above Dutch territory and the Dutch part of the Continental Shelf (NCP). This includes foreign means of transport and shipping on the NCP.
Examples of means of transport are passenger cars, trucks, ships, trains and planes.
Examples of mobile implements are agricultural tractors, forklift trucks and (road) construction machines.
