Description

The Safety Monitor is an annual large-scale population survey. This examines topics such as liveability and nuisance in the residential neighbourhood, safety experience – both general and nearby – and risk perception, victimisation of common crime, the citizen’s judgement about the actions of the police and prevention behaviour. The micro-data file contains research data on these subjects that may be related to different regional, demographic and social background characteristics of the person himself or of the household to which he/she belongs. These are always two-stage samples. In the first stage, sub-municipalities are selected, for the local samples districts/neighbourhoods are also called primary units. In the second stage, people aged 15 years or older are randomly drawn. The national samples have been further stratified to police region. In the 2012 investigation the stratification was based on the old classification in 25 police regions & #039; the investigations from 2012 onwards were based on the new regional police classification. The observation for the national samples is carried out by two parties, namely the CBS and research agency I &O-Research. The latter also performs the observation of the local samples. The observation takes place by means of a questionnaire to be completed on the Internet (CAWI) or by completing a paper questionnaire (PAPI). The study will be carried out between the first week of August and the end of November, where the internet questionnaire is initially offered via the letter of application. A written questionnaire is then sent along with both the first and second reminders. Finally, there is a telephone call in which the non-respondent is asked to fill in the questionnaire via the internet or paper. ### Population The research focuses on all persons aged 15 and over in the Netherlands. Persons in establishments and homes are not included in the study. The study data refer to a sample.
