Criminal detainees on 30 September with their most serious crime (from 01-01-2005)

This file contains a selection of variables from the so-called Personal Penalty Enforcement/Prison System (TULP/GW) registration of the Judicial Establishment Service (DJI). Each rule represents a prisoner. This data design contains the characteristics of the detention, such as the residence permit, starting date and duration, the most serious crime for which one was detained at the time and features of the inmate such as the RIN number and the encrypted SKN number for all persons who were criminally detained on 30 September of a given year. More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology The Judicial Establishment Service (DJI) provides CBS with four types of files: all persons who enter detention in a given year, all persons who are expelled from detention in a given year, all persons detained on 30 September of a given year and all persons detained on 31 December of a given year. This stock contains persons in the population stock on 30 September of the year in question. Each person is determined what is the most serious offence for which this person was detained on 30 September of the year in question. The offences are classified on the basis of the 2010 Standard Classification of Crimes. The characteristics of the detention relate to the sentence for which enforcement is due on 30 September of the year in question. ### Population This file contains all persons who are criminally detained on 30 September of a given year. These are both detainees who are in pre-trial detention and have not yet been sentenced at first instance (staying in Houses of Detention) and detainees who have been convicted (staying in prisons). These are prisoners within the prison system. The figures concern adults, as well as minors aged 16 or 17 who are included under adult criminal law. Minors who have been tried on the basis of juvenile criminal law reside in Judicial Youth Institutions. These people are not included in this file.
