Migration characteristics of all persons registered in the population register of the Caribbean Netherlands, coordinated (from 01-01-2009)

Description

For persons who settle in the Caribbean Netherlands from outside the Caribbean Netherlands, the date of establishment and the country from which one comes from is recorded. The date of departure and the country of destination is recorded for persons who settle from the Caribbean Netherlands outside the Caribbean Netherlands. The component is a coordinated version and contains information for 1 January 2009 to 31 December YYYY. Only the information for the last year is final. The information in the component will in principle no longer change. The file is part of CBS’s System of Social Statistical Files (SSB). PIVA: Personal information provided by the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (Caribbean Netherlands) have been part of the Dutch state system since 10 October 2010. In the Caribbean Netherlands, an automated population administration is maintained – following the example of the municipal population administration in the Netherlands – in which each registered data is recorded on a personal list. Since 10 October 2010, the Caribbean Netherlands has been obliged to provide data to government bodies outside the public sector body. More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology As soon as a migration movement takes place, an end date (PIVAEINDEMIGRATIEDATE) has been added to the record of the previous migration movement. A new record has also been added with the date of the start of the new migration movement (PIVAAANVANGMIGRATIEDATE). Persons included in the population registers of the Caribbean Netherlands (PIVA) are subject to specific rules to be registered or deregistered as migrants. See the variable PIVAMIGRATIETYPE. In this file migration movements have been made consistent with each other. For example, if a person has previously been removed administratively and then immigrates, the previous removal has changed to an emigration (with unknown country of destination). Information about only the last year is final and is in principle consistent with the information published on StatLine by Team Demography. Changes in the past that became known (many) later were still processed in the bus on the actual event date. As a result, the information about all other periods within the same component does not match the information published on StatLine by Team Demography. The file is of the bus type. Bus type means that the data file (the component) has a form in which in a record (a row in the file) attributes are attached to an entity using a time key. The time key consists of a start date and an end date. When a change occurs in one or more attributes, a new record is created. There shall be no overlap in the time keys of successive records for a specific entity. This file is NOT suitable to determine the annual number of migrations as published (once) by team Demography. There are two reasons for this: — all changes relating to past messages, which have become known in a later year, have also been incorporated in older years; — messages fulfilled within demographic statistics are not always counted in the year of event but in the year of receipt. Within this bus it is not possible to distinguish this. ### Population Includes all persons who have ever registered from outside the Caribbean Netherlands in the population registers of the Caribbean Netherlands (PIVA) and those who have established themselves from the Caribbean Netherlands outside the Caribbean Netherlands from 1 January 2009. Also contains a small number (approximately 20 per year) moving between the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands.
