The aim of the research is to increase the understanding of the careers and the degree of international mobility of PhD students after obtaining their doctorate.

### Methodology
GPE is a sample investigation. For the research data was obtained from Dutch universities, these data are then linked to the GBA. The persons who proved to be linked to the DPA and who were still living in the Netherlands on 1 January were invited to the investigation. The study was conducted over the Internet (Computer Assisted Web Interviewing, CAWI). The complete questionnaire is available electronically.
The weighting is carried out in two steps:
The first step has been corrected for non-response in the sample deployed. The second step corrected for the fact that part of the sampling framework does not link with the DPA.
### Population
Persons (up to 70 years old) who received a PhD in the academic year 1990/'91 or later at one of the fourteen Dutch universities that together form the Association of Universities (VSNU) and who were resident in the Netherlands on 1 January in the year of surveying.
