Civil status of persons included in the Municipal Basic Administration of Personal Data (GBA) (01-01-2013-01-01-2018)

Description

Civil status(s) of all persons entered into the Municipal Basic Administration (GBA) from 1 January 1995, with the date of commencement and date of end of each marital status. Changes as from the coordinated version 2017 and provisional version 201712: The civil state history has changed. Flash separations have been converted into divorces, flash separations are no longer seen as dissolutions of a partnership but as dissolutions of a marriage. The amendment concerns about 90 thousand people. Flash divorces existed until 2009, people were then able to convert their marriage into a registered partnership and then dissolve the registered partnership without the intervention of a judge. This conversion has been removed in the register, which will reduce the number of divorces after registered partnership (Civil State=SP) for measuring moments during that period, while the number of divorces after a marriage (civil state=S) will be higher for measuring points during that period. Changes as from the coordinated version 2013 and provisional version 201403: — the marital status history of persons relating to the period before 1 January 1995 is recorded. — details of the partner(s) involved in the closure of commitments: country of birth partner, date of birth partner and gender partner. Marital status: Formal position of a person referring to marriage and registered partnership. The registered partnership was introduced on 1 January 1998. Generally, registered partnership and marriage are treated in the same way. Marriage: Legal commitment to the coexistence of two persons. Since April 2001, marriage has also been open to persons of the same sex. Registered partnership: A relationship similar to marriage between two persons of the same or different sex, recorded in a civil status deed. The registered partnership was introduced in the Netherlands on 1 January 1998. The file is part of the Social Statistical File (SSB) of CBS. At random levels, a person’s marital status can be determined. As soon as a person’s marital status changes, an end date is added to the record of the previous marital status. A new record will also be added with the date of commencement of the new marital status (GBAAANVANGBURLESTATE). The variables GACANVANGBURGER LISTATE and GUEST are the key to marital status. Use of the file: The file cannot be used to make counts. The file is used to add the marital status attribute to individuals within populations originating from other files. Because the identification of persons in the file takes place on the basis of RINPERSOON and RINPERSOONS, this file can only be used in combination with other files in which persons have been identified in the same way, seven civil states are available in the file (unwrought, married, partnership, divorced after partnership, widowed after marriage and widowed after partnership). In statistical publications, only figures for the four main categories of unmarried, married, widowed and divorced will normally be presented. ### Population Persons registered in the Municipal Basic Administration (GBA) from 1 January 1995.
