### Methodology
Bankruptcy is pronounced on a legal unit. A company can contain multiple legal units. This may have the effect of making it seem as if the entire company went bankrupt, whereas it is only a part of it. It is then not possible to see in this file whether a finished job belongs to the bankrupt part or the non-failed part.
A special case is the restart. If a company makes a restart, there is no employment relationship between the employer and the old employees. They may (partially) get back into service at the start-up company, but this does not have to be done.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, a company usually gets, but sometimes no new Chamber of Commerce number and thus a new business identification number:
A) Mostly, only the assets are taken over. If this is the case, a new Chamber of Commerce number will be created.
In this case, the debts are not taken into account.
B) If there is a complete takeover of assets and liabilities (nearly absent) then the Chamber of Commerce number remains the same.
This file contains only terminated jobs of bankrupt companies. Only companies whose jobs have been identified in the SSB are listed here. Analysis of the number of bankrupt companies cannot therefore be carried out on the basis of this file.
### Population
All job terminations at companies in which at least one of the associated legal units has been declared bankrupt by a court in the Netherlands in a reporting year t or in t+ 1.
