Perinatal and infant mortality (01-01-2004-01-01-2017)

Description

This file contains data about born children and their mothers. The information about the children concerns, among other things, birth weight, gender and possibly death before the 1st birthday. The information on mothers concerns, inter alia, origin grouping and place of residence (postal code). In addition, data are available on the pregnancy, such as the duration of the pregnancy, the amount of pregnancy involved and whether the supervision has taken place by an obstetrician and/or gynecologist. More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology The data of the foundation Perinatal Registraties Nederland (PRN) are linked to data from the MotherKindBestand (MKB) of CBS. The data of PRN are recorded by the four occupational groups involved in the care around birth: midwives, midwives active general practitioners, gynecologists and pediatricians. The file of PRN is not completely complete a small number of 1st line practices (obstetricians and GPs) are missing. The MotherKindBestand contains data from the Municipal Basic Administration (GBA) supplemented with data on stillborns. Due to the fact that not all children from SMEs could be linked to the PRN data and to be able to show the background characteristics from the PRN registration for the total population, weighing factors have been calculated. The numbers of deceased children from SMEs have been used for the edge totals. The weight factors take into account the age of the mother, country of origin, province, sex of the child, month of birth, multiple pregnancy and the ratio between first and second line birth. ### Population The population consists of all children born after a gestational period of 22 weeks or more, whose mother was enrolled in the Municipal Basic Administration at the time of birth of the child.
