Deaths of a traffic accident in the Netherlands (from 01-01-1996)

Description

This file shall contain the transport characteristics of persons who are on public roads within 30 days of a road accident. died in the Netherlands. The definition of a road death is a road user who has died as a result of a sudden event on the public road related to traffic involving at least one moving vehicle. Persons who die 30 days or more after the accident date shall not be counted as road deaths. Both residents and non-residents are present in this stock. More information on how to access the data: > https://www.cbs.nl/nl-nl/onze-diensten/maatwerk-en-microdata/microdata-zelf-onderzoek-doen ### Methodology Data from three sources have been combined to determine the number of road fatalities in the Netherlands: data from cause of death forms completed by doctors, from files of district prosecutors and from accident reports drawn up by the police. By linking and integrating these sources, any missing data in the individual files can be supplemented. The results of this integrative approach to the number of road deaths are available from the calendar year 1996. Series with figures from previous years are available from the Department of Transport and Shipping (DVS) of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment. These time series are based solely on accident reports drawn up by the police. The definition of a road death is a road user who died as a result of a sudden event on public roads on Dutch territory related to traffic involving at least one moving vehicle. A deceased person shall not be counted as a traffic death if: — the accident occurs in a place which is not open to public traffic and other traffic; — the accident occurs on a part of a train or tramway which is not part of the public road and can, by its nature, be used exclusively by a train or tram; — the victim dies 30 days or more after the accident; — the deceased already as victim of & murder & #039; or from 'suicide ' it’s counted. The statistical year is equal to the year of accident and not the year of death. ### Population Deceased persons who died after a road accident on public roads in the Netherlands. The population consists of both residents and non-residents.
