LGRB-BW HÜK350: Protection potential of groundwater cover
Description
Groundwater quality may be endangered by pollutant inputs from the Earth’s surface. The groundwater cover protects the groundwater against such. Physical, chemical and microbial processes reduce pollution during the passage of the leachate water through the unsaturated zone. Parameters that affect the protection potential are the usable field capacity of the soils, the thickness and nature of the rocks above the groundwater, as well as the rate of leaching water.
