Industrial drainage areas in Lower Saxony (after 1945) 1: 50000 (WMS Service)
Description
Peat mining is changing high moor sites sustainably and profoundly. The map shows the distribution and follow-up use of land that has been ploughed industrially or for which there is currently a peat permit. An industrial peat removal of at least 0.8 m after 1945 until today is reliably documented for the areas shown.
The follow-up use refers to the current use or, in the case of uncompleted storage, to the subsequent use provided for in the mining permit (land use or land direction for nature conservation objectives). Data from the moor protection programs (I and III), the licensing and advisory authorities as well as the use (ATKIS® and InVeKoS) were evaluated and merged uniformly during the creation of maps.
The map of areas with industrial peat extraction covers an area of approximately 53000 hectares in Lower Saxony, covering about one-sixth of the areas of the bog bogs or moor moor treposols, which mainly comprise sand-mixed crops.
