Vegetation and soil conditions of forests in the Gesäuse National Park (Austria:Steiermark)

Description

News from the Society of Natural Sciences 138: 159254. The result of the work is a division of the area into forest site types. These types are described in terms of soil, essential eco-factors and plant cover. Furthermore, the associated natural forest society is determined and the potentially natural tree species composition is discussed. There is a great local and forest-ecological diversity, ranging from forest forests along the Enns (Salicetum albae, Equiseto-Alnetum incanae) to maple ash forests (Carici pendulae-Aceretum, Phyllitido-Aceretum, Ulmo-Aceretum), shady pine spruce (larch) forests with strong acid humus formations (Calamagrostio variae-Piceetum myrtilletosum), snow heath pine forests (Erico- Pinetum sylvestris), degraded beech forest sites (Calamagrostio variae-Piceetum carduetosum deflorati), lime (Fichten-Tannen-)beech forests (Helleboro nigri-Fagetum, Adenostylo glabrae-Fagetum, Saxifrago rotundifoliae-Fagetum), beech forests (Cardamino trifoliae-Fagetum, Saxifrago rotundifoliae-Fagetum adenostyletosum alliariae), spruce pine forest sites (Pyrolo abietetum) up to subalpine forest societies of soil acid spruce forests (associations from the Vaccinio-Piceion), the lime spruce forests (Assoz. from the Abieti-Piceion) as well as the larch and larch forests (Rhodothamno-Laricetum and Rhododendro hirsuti-Pinetum cembrae) are sufficient.
