Description

The information contained in this spatial dataset collects the control stations associated with the RADIALES program. These stations are visited periodically with collection of numerous physicochemical parameters of seawater throughout the water column. In addition, samples are taken that are subsequently analyzed studying the state of seawater and marine plankton in Spanish waters. The arrangement of these stations is designed along sections (lines), perpendicular to our coasts for the most part, in all the Marine Demarcations of Spain. The RADIALES program monitors the state of our seas and plankton, constituting these stations an observatory of the pelagic ecosystem clearly related to Descriptor 7 (Hydrographic Conditions) and Descriptor 1 (Biodiversity - Pelagic Habitats) of the Marine Strategies of Spain. For the creation of this GIS layer, the locations of the stations have been compiled together with the basic characterization of the stations: Estación, Radial, Transecto, Demarcación, … Profundidad, Hábitat, … Fechas de inicio de la serie, Periodicidad, … Profundidades toma de muestras, número de botellas, ... Parámetros estudiados The stations are distributed throughout the peninsular coast and the Atlantic waters around the Canary Islands. It is a data set composed of point elements, where each element represents a sampling station. The preparation of this set of geographical information was carried out by the Marine SIG Group of the CN IEO with the information provided by the managers of each section of RADIALES. This program is divided into areas: RADMED (Mediterranean Sea), RAPROCAN (Canary Islands), STOCA (Gulf of Cadiz), RADNOR (Northwest Iberian Peninsula and Cantabrian Sea). The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database.
