Matera early 1900

Description

The map is owned by the Municipality of Matera and was found in the late eighties in the archive of documents of the first Sassi office that operated after the international competition of 1974 - 1978. It was not possible to define precisely the year in which it was drawn up but, probably, dates back to a period of time estimated between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries because there is no trace of some important interventions made in the first decade of the twentieth century (eg via d'Addozio of 1906). The map shows in pencil the year 1925 near the "lottization" of Via Gattini, while the large dark dots that can be seen in the Sassi, indicate the position of the public fountains built after Matera was connected to the Apulian aqueduct in 1927. On the map you can read some ancient odonimi in use at that time (via dei Fossi - via Albero dell'Ulivo), and you can see the bridges that climbed over the grabiglioni not yet covered (the current Florentine streets and Bruno Buozzi).
